Our region has always kept an open mind towards using electronic cigarettes as we can see the massive potential health benefits from switching. The scientists investigated the effect of the e-liquids on cells called endothelial cells that line the interior of blood vessels. They found that, when grown in a laboratory, endothelial cells exposed to the e-liquids — or to blood collected from e-cigarette users shortly after vaping — are less viable and exhibit significantly increased levels of molecules implicated in DNA damage and cell death. This variation makes it difficult to issue overall public health recommendations about the category and demonstrates the huge and long-standing need for pre-market review of these products. We also note the frequently cited claim from Public Health England that e-cigarettes are definitively — 95% — safer than traditional cigarettes. With what’s known about it right now, though, experts say it isn’t safe—or even safer— to vape marijuana. Respondents also reported keeping or selling the devices, or returning them to a vape shop. In addition, the percentage of EVP use in 2021 was higher in whites (6.5%) than Blacks (3.1%), Asians (1.2%), and Hispanic/Latinos (3.4%) compared to 2015. However, white and Black adolescents had the highest increases of about threefold between 2015 and 2021. In all four survey years, daily EVP use was highest in grade 12 where most students are ages 17 to 18.
E-cigarette companies have promoted unsubstantiated health claims about their products as healthier than traditional cigarettes, when, in fact, e-cigarettes are uniquely dangerous for kids due to nicotine’s impact on their developing brains. This cross-sectional study highlights a high prevalence of e-cigarette use among adults in the US, particularly among young adults, in 2021. Finally, the report provides detailed information on advertising and promotional expenditures by domestic e-cigarettes manufacturers between 2015 and 2018. Almost half (49.1%) of young people don’t know what to do with used e-cigarette pods and disposable devices. Daily use of EVPs increased from 2% in 2015 to 7.2% in 2019, greater than three-and-one-half times increase. Second, we reported the distribution of the primarily used e-cigarette flavor before and after the ban with paired t-tests to evaluate the differences. Third, a multinomial logistic regression (PROC LOGISTIC in SAS, version 9.4) was used to estimate the associations between demographics, e-cigarettes and smoking preference and use status, and the flavor that respondents primarily used after the ban. Fourth, we reported the distribution of ways of obtaining e-cigarettes before and after the flavor ban. Finally, the use of non-e-cigarettes tobacco products after the ban among different categories of respondents was assessed. Respondents were also asked whether they were aware of the ban, supported the ban, and extent to which they perceived local retailers were compliant with the ban. This is the first study to report human AM responses to ECVC and demonstrates dose-dependent cytotoxicity, inducing apoptosis with both nicotine dependent and independent responses which the vaping process accentuates. At sub-cytotoxic doses, ECVC enhances production of ROS, inflammatory cytokines, chemokines and metalloproteinases, although the response is less pronounced with nfECVC. Bacterial phagocytosis by macrophages is inhibited acutely by ECVC and the effects are attenuated by the anti-oxidant NAC, suggesting ROS and reactive aldehydes play a role in the effects of ECVC/nfECVC. ROS production in response to cigarette smoking (or smoke extract) has been implicated as a mediator of adverse effects,23 therefore we examined the possible utility of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) treatment in reducing the harmful effects of ECVC in THP-1 macrophages. Both AM and THP-1 macrophages were used for these experiments due to the large number of experimental conditions and numbers of cells required.
Strong decisive action is needed to prevent the uptake of e-cigarettes based on the growing body of evidence of its use by children and adolescents and health harms. Little research has been conducted into the safety of e-cigarettes and e-liquids in pregnancy. It is not known whether the vapour is harmful to a baby in pregnancy.

Therefore, follow up studies are necessary to clarify the impact of e-cigarette consumption on human health in SARS-CoV-2 infection. About one-quarter of U.S. youth and young adults have ever tried e-cigarettes. While vaping might help you quit smoking, it probably won’t help you quit nicotine altogether. Some damage to your lungs from vaping can heal or get better with medications. Over time, constant irritation to your lungs can lead to health problems (like asthma and COPD) that won’t go away. ENDS may be manufactured to look like conventional combusted cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. Larger devices, such as tank systems or mods, bear little or no resemblance to cigarettes.
The Department has sent a statewide health alert to health care providers and local health departments following recent reports of severe lung disease in people who have used vaping products. The cytotoxic and pro-inflammatory effects of different e-cigarette flavouring chemicals were also tested on two human monocytic cell lines—mono mac 6 (MM6) and U937 [86]. Among the flavouring chemicals tested, CAD was found to be the most toxic and O-vanillin and pentanedione also showed significant cytotoxicity; by contrast, acetoin, diacetyl, maltol, and coumarin did not show any toxicity at the concentrations assayed (10–1000 µM). Of interest, a higher toxicity was evident when combinations of different flavours or mixed equal proportions of e-liquids from 10 differently flavoured e-liquids were tested, suggesting that vaping a single flavour is less toxic than inhaling mixed flavours [86].
