The turing-based programming language is best understood as a subset of C++, with an emphasis on threading. C++ programs can be structured in any of many different ways depending on their scope, so when you write something in the language of choice for your job, the most commonly-used parts will appear first.

There are a number of turing languages which support threading features. It is still possible to build programs in C++ that can run on a turing computer, but for the most part, when you try to write an AI, you will not be using any of these languages as your building blocks. In this article we look at how to build a simple (i.e. single-threaded) machine which uses these programming languages, and will consider other turing programming languages when building a single-threaded AI system.

An example of a turing-based programming language is Python. There are many Python dialects available; most of them are designed for human use, and are widely compatible with mainstream computers and are generally easy to learn. This article will assume that Python is not your only choice for AI, and will focus on Python 2.x.

We’ll need a Python environment that supports turing-level language features such as concurrent execution and vectorization. We’re going to make use of a Python virtual machine to make it easy to create a large-scale system, but we can always use a system based on native code, if we want to. A Python program is a sequence of instructions. It is written in a high-level language that allows programming constructs other than C or C++. It is generally a single language statement. If the program contains more than a few steps, these are written as functions.

There are two ways in which a Python program can be executed in the turing-based programming style: by way of a “loop” or a “continuation”.
