Bureau of Meteorology officials have warned rain and strong winds are expected to continue over west Queensland as temperatures have reached a maximum in the afternoon, and heavy rainfall and flooding in south Queensland.

“Conditions are likely to move northwards with gusts of up to 85 kph (55 mph), with potentially severe weather expected between 1am (0900 GMT) tonight and 1am (1500 GMT),” the bureau said on its website.

“Rain will continue in most areas and moderate rainfall will be observed along a wide front and possible large hail on the north side of the state.

“Heavy rain may continue into the next day.”
